Benny loves Anne, who doesn't reciprocate. Joseph and Kate are in love. Pierce's ex-girlfriend makes trouble.

Gary accepts a job managing the ranch. Sumner brings Olympic champion Mary Lou Retton to Meg's competition.

Pierce is beaten and told to avoid Paige. Val is asked to write Greg Sumner's biography, as Sumner hires Alex.
17. Denials
Val gets Sumner's cooperation for her book about him. Pierce buys a rifle and makes a death threat to Sumner.
18. Dedicated to the One I Love
After Paige is shot by Pierce, the MacKenzies, Anne, and Sumner rally to her side. Will she recover?
19. Trials and Tribulations
Paige's chances for a full recovery become more optimistic, while Sumner tries to tell Paige he loves her.

Pierce hides Paige on a boat, while Karen becomes resentful about Mack and Anne's relationship.
