Tonight’s music, ‘Nocturnal after John Dowland', was specially written for Bream in 1963 by Benjamin Britten. Britten’s piece is based on the song 'Come, Heavy Sleep' by the English Renaissance composer, John Dowland.

Bream concludes the recital with Nocturnal after John Dowland. Based on ‘Come Heavy Sleep’ by John Dowland, it was written for Julian Bream by long-time collaborator Benjamin Britten in 1963.
