Overview
Two Americans and their allies form a scrappy rescue operation in 1940 Marseilles to help artists, writers and other refugees fleeing Europe during WWII.

In 1940 Marseilles, Americans Mary-Jayne Gold and Varian Fry realize they'll need to start using unconventional methods to help the city's refugees.
2. The Angel of History
An unpleasant surprise sends Varian and Mary-Jayne scrambling to find new accommodations, while Lisa leads a dangerous trek through the mountains.
3. The Wilderness
Mary-Jayne takes on a risky undercover mission. At the Villa Air-Bel, artist Max Ernst throws a surrealist birthday party for the history books.
4. No Road Back
When Nazi officers spark panic and a police crackdown, Albert must smuggle the writer Walter Mehring out of the city. Varian bumps into an old friend.
5. The Human Condition
Under pressure from Margaux, Mary-Jayne masterminds a prison break. Thomas and a new guest at the villa push Varian to live up to his ideals.
