Professor Jasper Tempest, a genius Cambridge University criminologist with OCD and an overbearing mother, assists the police in solving crime.

A woman mysteriously disappears from a yacht, during a trip with her boyfriend and friends. Dr. Goldberg tries to convince Professor Tempest to resume collaboration with the police.
2. September Gardens
While Jasper visits a home for the elderly, a woman is killed by one of the people living there. But there may be more to the murder than meets the eye.
3. The Inspection
A school inspector is killed, first by five stab wounds, and then by being smothered. Why two different methods?
